Melrose jewelry store robbery filmed; last series of flights

Police say a Saturday night robbery inside a Melrose jewel was caught on camera.
Video from the business on 3rd Avenue appears to show the robber pulling out a gun before fleeing with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
Eli Harari, the owner of EH Jewelry, said he was at a crossroads. He said this business is his livelihood, but after Saturday’s robbery he says it might be best to shut down.
According to police, the man entered the store around 6:30 p.m. He told the employee that he wanted to buy a 14-karat chain for his girlfriend and asked where the jewelry hung.
Harari said News 12 the man then presented the employee with a debit card with no money.
As the employee swiped his card and showed the jewelry, the man reached into his jacket, opened the “employee-only” door, pulled out a gun, and demanded the jewelry.
Within seconds, the man took several trays of jewelry. Police said the stolen jewelry was worth around $8,000 and Harari told News 12 the suspect also removed $1,000 from their ledger.
Police say the suspect, who is still at large, was last seen wearing a jacket that read “protocol candy shop”.
Meanwhile, Harari, still upset about the theft, said he didn’t know what to do next.
“Maybe I have to close this business because it’s dangerous. It’s all I have in my life. If they take everything, I’ll be homeless, so I don’t want to be like that” , did he declare.
According to the police, the employee was not injured.
As police have reported several robberies at Bronx jewelry stores in recent weeks, it is unclear if they are all related to this recent incident in Melrose.
