HOUSTON – A road rage incident has been caught on camera after a man says another driver’s actions caused him to crash his Tesla. Now the Tesla driver wants the person to pay for the damages.

Fabio Brasil Da Costa is grateful he wasn’t injured in the hit and run.

He said he had seen crazy incidents of road rage in the Houston area before, but never thought it would happen to him.

It started as a normal route to Brasil Da Costa on Tuesday morning.

“It was around 11:30 a.m. I was driving to work,” he said.

He was driving in the left lane on US 90, driving the Tesla he just acquired a month ago.

“All of a sudden I saw a car coming behind me. It was really weird because I didn’t see anyone driving it at first, then I squinted and saw someone drive with the seat fully tilted back,” said Brasil Da Costa.

Brasil Da Costa said the driver of a Hyundai Elantra started chasing him. His Tesla’s camera system captured what happened next.

“They came to my right (side) and cut me off, then went right past me, then after a few seconds they started slamming on the breaks,” he said.

The car automatically activated the emergency stop function and Brasil Da Costa applied the brakes.

“For a second it looked like they were going to keep going, but then they hit the break again and we collided,” Brasil Da Costa said.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra fled.

” I really do not understand. I was not driving erratically or too slow in the left lane,” Brasil Da Costa said.

Now, he says, although he has some damage to the front of his Tesla, things could have been much worse.

Brasil Da Costa said it would cost around $1,600 to fix his car.

“I would like to have some responsibility because you can’t just drive like that creating problems. If it was a bit more serious, I could have hit someone else,” said Brasil Da Costa .
