SINGAPORE – A secondary school maths teacher was jailed for 18 weeks on Tuesday (May 24) for taking voyeuristic videos of another teacher placing a camera under her workstation, while others were away for math lessons. character and citizenship education.

The 46-year-old Singaporean, who pleaded guilty to two voyeurism charges, cannot be named due to a court order to protect the identities of his victims. The school cannot be named either.

Court documents said he was in charge of the school’s extracurricular robotics activity and had 15 years of teaching experience until he was arrested last year.

He was the second teacher to be jailed on Tuesday for sex-related crimes, the first being another man who targeted a 15-year-old student. In this case, the victim committed suicide as a result of the offences.

The court heard the maths teacher came up with the idea of ​​placing a camera at his colleague’s table in the staff room after watching pornographic videos involving voyeurism. He found the victim attractive and wanted to masturbate to the illegal clips he recorded.

He had a mini camera at the time that could record high definition video footage.

On January 13 last year, he took the device to school, keeping it in his pocket waiting for an opportunity. to plant it.

When other teachers left the staff room for character and citizenship education around 2 p.m., he then went to the victim’s workstation, taped the camera under his desk out of her sight and positioned her facing her chair.

The camera recorded video footage of the victim’s pelvis and his underwear for at least a few hours.

The man was unable to retrieve the device that day. When he returned the next day to do so, he realized he was no longer there. The victim discovered it and filed a complaint with the police.

Police later discovered that the mini-cam also captured footage of the man as he tucked him under the desk.

Her cell phone was seized and an upskirt video of another woman was found on it, according to court documents.

Investigations revealed that the day after his colleague was shot, he met his second victim for dinner at the Paragon Mall in Orchard.

The court heard he took video of his underwear by positioning his mobile phone camera at the opening of his shorts as they walked up an escalator.

Deputy Attorney General Heershan Kaur requested 18 to 28 weeks in jail, citing sentencing considerations such as premeditation and the use of a recording device.

The prosecutor also noted that it was “simply coincidental” that the victim discovered the camera, adding: “If the tape had fallen into the hands of other parties, the trauma and embarrassment the victim would have had to endure would have been unimaginable.”

Those convicted of voyeurism can be jailed for up to two years, fined, caned, or punished with any combination of the three.
