Google Pixel 6a camera: Everything we know
While everyone is busy holding their breath on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, there’s a lot to be said for the relatively less flashy Pixel 6a. Google’s more economical option brings a lot to the table, especially given its reasonable price.
One aspect that mid-range headsets have historically struggled in has been the camera department. For years, high-end mobile photography has been limited, for lack of a better word, to a hefty price tag.
The Pixel 6a is, strictly speaking, no exception to this rule. While it doesn’t have the same impressive cameras as Google’s 2022 flagships, it’s no slouch either. And we’ll tell you why.

How many megapixels does the Pixel 6a camera have?
How many cameras does the Pixel 6a have?
The Pixel 6a will have 2 cameras – a wide primary and an ultra-wide secondary. The latter is a 12MP sensor. The Pixel 6a will not feature a telephoto lens.
Pixel 6a camera upgrades
Previously, Google made sure to implement the camera module from its flagship last year into its current mid-range smartphone. This was precisely the case with the Pixel 5a and the Pixel 5.
This year marks a break with that tradition. The Pixel 6a will feature the same sensor found in the Pixel 5a and Pixel 5. As a result, the Pixel 6a will have a significantly inferior camera compared to the Pixel 6.
Additionally, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will also significantly outperform the Pixel 6a in the camera department. Overall, Google offers a number of smartphones with better camera quality. That’s not to say the Pixel 6a’s camera is inherently bad. It’s just not the best Google has to offer.
Pixel 6a video recording capabilities
Historically, the Pixel range has had its fair share of issues with video recording. The Pixel 6 made a significant improvement in this regard and finally put Google on par with Apple in the video recording department.
Unfortunately, the Pixel 6a, as already mentioned, will not have the same main camera module as the Pixel 6. Therefore, the video recording capabilities of the Pixel 6a will be more or less in line with those of the Pixel 5. This means that video recording up to 60FPS in 4K quality is on the table.
