Every year, smartphone brands showcase their expertise by releasing a handful of high-end premium devices that tick most, if not all of the right boxes. In fact, not only do these devices have the fastest SoC, but they also come equipped with a versatile camera array that can take remarkable photos day or night. For example, the OnePlus 10 Pro (review), Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (review), Vivo X80 Pro (review) and Xiaomi 12 Pro (review), which are some of the best camera-centric phones you can get. can buy right now. Now, we have already reviewed the devices and highlighted their strengths and weaknesses. That said, we wanted to see what our readers thought of their camera’s performance.

So today we are going to pit the cameras of the aforementioned devices against each other in a blind camera comparison. As always, we’ll be sharing loads of photos of the phones in different scenarios. The caveat is that the name of the smartphone will be obscured and our readers will have to judge and vote for their favorite snaps. After a while, we will share the blind camera comparison results and give you a detailed look at which device won the most fights. So, without further ado, let the voting begin.

HDR daylight

Let’s start with shots taken by our competitors’ main sensors during the day. Now all four phones took a stunning picture, however, you’ll notice some photos have unusually bright colors in the frame. Therefore, before voting, be sure to take a good look at the colors of the composition. You should also research which camera offers the best dynamic range and watch out for cases of highlight clipping or poor exposure metering.

Zoom shots (2x – 3.3x)

It’s not uncommon for an Android flagship to come with multiple auxiliary cameras. In fact, the cameras we’re comparing today also boast excellent telephoto capabilities. Therefore, we decided to take two different zooms from the phones, including shots exploiting the focal length offered by the dedicated telephoto sensor, and then another shot with 10x zoom. Naturally, this isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison, seeing how the OnePlus 10 Pro offers a 3.3x telephoto lens, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro offers a 2x telephoto sensor. Either way, keep an eye out for the image that delivers the sharpest textures and most accurate colors.

Zoom shots (10x)

As mentioned earlier, we also took images of the phones at 10x zoom. Now, the Galaxy S22 Ultra should, in theory, win this fight because the device has two telephoto sensors, one of which offers 10x optical zoom. That said, competing phones are no slouch, and the devices just might win you over with their cutting-edge photography algorithms that can fine-tune the output at high zoom by means of certain software tricks. As always, look for the image with the sharpest textures and most natural colors.

Ultra wide

Let’s take a look at the ultrawide images next. Here we would like you to pay more attention to objects positioned around the periphery of the frame. More often than not, wide-angle sensors tend to obscure feature detail near the edges. Therefore, you should not only check the sharpness around the center, but also in the corners. And, while you’re at it, be sure to check out the colors of the foliage, as well as the dynamic range of the scene.

Human subjects

Needless to say, buyers looking to splurge on their next Android will also want to snap photos of friends and family. On this note, the next set of images is centered around our inner anchor Keshav. You are responsible for choosing the image that goes back and forth from the subject’s complexion to a tee. Additionally, you can also zoom in on the subject’s face to get a number where the camera delivers the sharpest output at a closer crop.

Naturally, you might want to take advantage of a device’s portrait mode to help the subject stand out more. Well, don’t worry, because we’ve also included the portraits of our flagships in this comparison. So find the photo with the clearest bokeh effect and vote!

Big plans

So far, we’ve seen how our competitors fare when clicking on images of remotely positioned objects. In this fight, we’ll cover close-up shots from phones. To do this, we took pictures of an orange flower which, by the way, is a particularly difficult hue to properly expose. Therefore, you should pay attention to cases of color spots. Also, keep an eye out for the bokeh effect and if it seeps into elements that should have been in focus.

Selfies

The front camera of a smartphone no longer plays second fiddle to its main sensor. Thus, we have also integrated photos of the snapper selfie of each device in this comparison. Take a look.

Low light

Finally, let’s take a closer look at the low-light images of our competitors. To begin with, we will first judge images taken with the Night Mode utility turned off. Therefore, the output on your screen will have little to do with the software chops of a smartphone. Vote after considering overall visibility, noise, and sharpness of angles in images.

Lowlight with night mode

With the night mode function activated, all devices spilled a brighter scene. That said, some images offer better noise control as well as minimal lens flare, so vote accordingly.
